Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle
This is a widespread, significant weather event and we are encouraging you to plan for the worst, whilst we continue to hope for the best.
Met Service is expecting to see significant wind, rain and swells from this cyclone starting Sunday in the north and spreading wider early next week.
Across our regions we have already seen significant damage to infrastructure and access in some areas. There is a real risk that roads, power and water supplies will be further compromised or be damaged during this next event. There may also be parts of our communities which become isolated and we are urging you to be prepared.
Here are some useful things you can do:
- Keep up to date with the lates forecasts and weather warnings
https://www.metservice.com/warnings/home
- Ensure you have enough supplies if you become isolated – consider a trip to town in the next day or so to top up on food, and other essentials including any medications.
- What do you need if you lose power – Gas for the BBQ? Generator for the pump or freezer? Fuel for your generator? Lighting? Charger for your cellphone (car)?
- Move livestock to higher ground and where possible sheltered paddocks.
We urge you to stay safe. We are here to help, please let us know if you or someone else needs assistance in any way.
