Federated Farmers Submission on Overseas Investment Amendment Regulations (No2): Targeted Exemptions to the Overseas Investment Act 2005

We have mixed views about the proposed exemptions being consulted upon. While it makes sense to get rid of illogical restrictions that impose needless cost on investors and potentially distracts the OIO from more sensitive applications, exemptions often make the law more rather than less complicated and they can cause unintended consequences, such as opening loopholes that can be exploited.
