Submission on Draft Code of Welfare for Deer
Federated Farmers is proud of New Zealand’s record on animal welfare, and we strongly support efforts to ensure best practice is followed by all owners and managers of animals, including farmers. This includes enforcement of codes of welfare and animal welfare regulation.
Federated Farmers endorses work New Zealand Deer Farmers Association (NZDFA) has done to develop their response to the proposed Deer Code of Welfare.
Federated Farmers endorses the proposals put forward in the NZDFA submission and in addition recommend that NAWAC work closely with them before finalising the proposal to ensure that any amendments to the code are underpinned by sound scientific evidence and are sensible, practical, and affordable.
