Federated Farmers Rural Hearing for Kapiti Coast District

Federated Farmers strongly believes that a “right to farm” principle is imbued in the District Plan. Rules and standards must be practical so as to allow farming to occur without resource consent. Federated Farmers becomes concerned when character and amenity become the main focus of district plans provisions for rural zones, when ability to use the land for primary production should be front and foremost.  Our members use the land to earn an honest living, do work that they enjoy, and put food on our tables. We are concerned that primary production in the Kapiti Coast District is viewed by the general public as a novelty or simply as an attractive backdrop to the urban areas.
