Federated Farmers Submission on the Tararua Annual Plan 2016-17
Federated Farmers is focused on the transparency of rate setting, rating equity, levels of service for key responsibilities and both the overall and relative cost of local government to agriculture. We submit to Annual Plans and Long Term Plans through out New Zealand. We also submit on central government policies that affect local government revenue and spending, with the aim of ensuring that local government have the appropriate tools to carry out their functions.
While we understand that Council is not intending on making any significant changes to the Long Term Plan, we view consultation on the Annual and Long Term Plans as a means of engaging with Council staff and Councillors on key areas of importance to Federated Farmers. We are disappointed that information on the Draft Annual Plan was not more obvious to ratepayers through the Consultation page on the Council website. In fact, it took the advice of Council staff to locate the Draft Annual Plan document. Federated Farmers values transparency, as we are sure that the community does too.
