Federated Farmers Whanganui Annual Plan Submission 2017
Whanganui District Council is planning a 1.9% average rate increase, below the 5% they originally forecast. In our submission to their Annual Plan, we strongly oppose their proposed $50 fee on all ratepayers, to cover costs associated with the city’s wastewater system. We think it’s unfair to ask farmers to pay for a sewerage system they can’t use. As the charge is calculated per house, farmers with more than one house on the property would be penalised further. Other issues we’ve raised include how economic development is funded, roading and Council’s debt management.
