Federated Farmers Submission for Central Hawkes Bay District Council Long Term Plan

Federated Farmers will once again be highlighting the  Central Hawkes Bay District Council’s inequitable roading rate in our submission on their 2018 Long Term Plan .  CHB ratepayers are lumbered with a rate that disproportionality hammers farmers, as it has no differentials and is struck on land value.

A  medium value farm in the district will contribute $4,212 towards roading.  The farmer certainly does not receive a corresponding value for his money, especially when compared to an urban Waipukurau ratepayer who will contribute $207. Federated Farmers is also opposing the new district-wide rates that mean farmers will be paying towards town water and wastewater systems, farmers have no expectation that urban ratepayers will help pay for their personal on-farm wastewater systems, so it is unfair to ask farmers to fund town systems.
