Federated Farmers Submission for South Taranaki District Council Long Term Plan

Summary of Submissions

We are pleased to see that proposed average rates for sample rural properties are slightly less than the district average. We support Council’s focus on core services and keeping rates increases to a minimum.

It is a priority for us that the LTIF be sustained, so that its returns can continue to be used to benefit ratepayers, by buffering rates increases and funding loans for renewal of essential infrastructure. We support efforts to bring down Council debt over time.

In regards to proposed spending on cycle paths and walk ways, we support retaining the status quo. If Council decides to go ahead with some form of financial support, we would oppose the option that sees Council spending $500,000 and prefer the option that sees less funding from Council ($250,000) and external funding.

We support amalgamation of Waimate West and Inaha water schemes, on the understanding that pricing for rural customers will not increase, their needs will be safe-guarded and security of supply will improve.

We support the general direction of the Waste Management and Minimisation Plan. We would be happy to assist Council with information gathering, the development of specific rural initiatives and communication with farmers.
