Federated Farmers Submission to Tararua District Council Long Term Plan

A significant portion of our members are proposed to have rates increases around 20%. This is a considerable difference to the average consulted for rural ratepayers.

While we understand that Council is facing increasing pressure to provide more community services, we ask Council to keep rates increases and spending to a minimum and look to maximise efficiencies where possible over the next few years. Rates that increase at a greater rate than ratepayer incomes, are not sustainable.

Roading is arguably the most important service that councils provide to farmers. Roads are also one of the few council services that farmers use every day, and there are significant economic and social benefits arising from a safe roading network that offers access for isolated rural people to urban areas, and vice versa.
