Current on-farm use of RFID technology

Released 01 Jun 2010

Have your say

The Federation is seeking information on the current use of animal identification technology. A number of farmers are already using this technology for business management purposes. Ideally any radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology subsequently adopted (e.g. around NAIT) should be compatible with the technology already in use.

We are therefore looking to understand the level of current adoption of RFID technology and have prepared a short survey to gather information on the issue.

In order to assist us on this issue, if you are currently using RFID technology on your farm, we would appreciate it if you could fill out the answers below.

What animal species are you using RFID technology to manage?*

If other, please specify:

Any comments?

What approximate numbers of animals are involved?*

Any comments?

Do you use low-frequency (LF) or ultra-high frequency (UHF) technology?*

Any comments?

Can your tag reader detect another frequency band or bands in addition to that of the tags that you currently use?*

Any comments?

Do you have any problems with the RFID technology that you currently use?

Do you have any positive experiences from the use of RFID technology that you are prepared to share?

Any other comments?
