Auckland

Introduction

Federated Farmers Auckland takes in the Rodney, Franklin, Papakura, Waitakrere, North Shore, Manukau and Auckland council areas. The province also covers the Auckland Regional Council and part of Environment Waikato's area.

Federated Farmers Auckland is split into two sub-provinces. North of the Harbour Bridge is Rodney, and south is Franklin. Although the province includes New Zealand's largest urban area, 90 percent is still rural and consists of diverse types of production.

Lifestyle blocks are increasing but still contribute substantially to the province's production.

Main Issues

In Auckland the main issues are rates, land development and restriction on farming practices.

The Regional Policy Statement (RPS) - This is a very important document for farmers in the entire Waikato Region because it might direct councils to have rules and control certain farming activities. To find out more about some of the topics in the Regional Policy Statement or to download the Livestock Movement bylaw petition, please click the PDFs below:

Waikato District Council rates review hearing - Auckland Federated Farmers is presenting its submission on the Waikato District Council's rate review on Wednesday February 1. Several individual farmers will also be presenting their submissions.

A copy of the hearings scheldule is available below.

Auckland compliance checklist

This checklist, designed for diary farmers in the Auckland region, outlines the minimum requirements for complying with Council rules. The guidelines are the result of collaboration between Federated Farmers, Fonterra, DairyNZ and the Auckland Regional Council in an effort to pin down the way regulatory officers interpret the rules and to provide everyone with as much consistency and certainty as possible.

Note there is a difference between the ‘minimum requirements' and the more ambitious ‘best practice' guidelines promoted by DairyNZ - this led to some confusion among farmers at the Rodney Field Day.

Meetings

Annual general meetings in the province and sub-provinces are held in various places, and at different times; all members are notified.

Executive meetings are held eight or nine times a year in the EMA building on Khyber Pass Road. Special meetings are also held when required.
