Supermarkets open for business and emergency supplies available
Released 24 Feb 2011

Many supermarkets and food stores around Christchurch and outlying areas are restocked and reopen after Tuesday's catastrophic earthquake.
Despite challenging freighting conditions around Christchurch and low staff levels, both Foodstuffs and Progressive Enterprises say there is plenty of food available and there is no need to "panic-buy".
To ensure store shelves are not stripped unnecessarily, Foodstuffs will limit the number of essential items each shopper can buy to ensure there is enough for everyone.
Progressive has prioritised shipments of water and basic food such as pasta and cereal. Sanitary products and batteries are also en-route to stores.
Foodstuffs also confirmed supplies to the rest of the South Island are unaffected.
Newstalk ZB's website includes a list of open food stores across Christchurch and the rest of the region with a map showing all emergency supply points.
