All Canterbury members, has your farm been affected?
Released 14 Jun 2011
With the two large earthquakes yesterday afternoon, Federated Farmers has texted all Canterbury members, with particular focus on Banks Peninsula.
Federated Farmers Christchurch office was closed and all staff sent home. With many telephone lines being down, there are three ways for farmers to report to us:
- The preferred way is by texting Federated Farmers on 027 666 9349. Being an e-text number it doesn't receive calls but instead collates all the text replies. It will also help to reduce load on the telephone networks
- If email is working, as it did in February, farmers can also email admin@fedfarm.org.nz
- Finally, there is 0800 327 646 (0800 FARMING).
Initial reports indicate this earthquake is a similar event to the 22 February one. We've made some contact with members on Banks Peninsula and while they are shaken, they thankfully report that they are okay.
Federated Farmers is still largely in the dark and do have concerns for stock drinking water but unlike February 22, power is on in parts of Banks Peninsula. In the meantime it is best to boil all water until otherwise notified as a precaution.
