Hauraki-Coromandel
Introduction
Federated Farmers Hauraki-Coromandel represents local farmers' views at two district councils and one regional council.
Main Issues
The main issues in our province include how the Resource Management Act is being interpreted, the profitability of hill country farming and the issue of dairy effluent.
The Regional Policy Statement (RPS) - This is a very important document for farmers in the entire Waikato Region because it might direct councils to have rules and control certain farming activities. To find out more about some of the topics in the Regional Policy Statement, please click the PDF below
Hauraki District Plan review - Federated Farmers submitted on the Hauraki District Plan and presented at the hearings in October 2011. The main topics tackled were significant natural areas, building rules and earthworks with Federated Farmers emphasising that regulation should not interfere with normal farming practice.
Thames Coromandel protection of native bush - Thames Coromandel District Council has recently indicated that it is identifying area of native bush as Significant Natural Areas (SNAs) and seeking to protect these in the District Plan using rules. Federated Farmers considers that SNA mapping needs to be correct and not include areas of poor quality bush, and that rules need to be appropriate without constraining farming.
