Introduction

Federated Farmers Hawke's Bay encompasses Hastings, Havelock Waipukarau, Waimarama and Blackhead.

Federated Farmers Hawke's Bay works hard to maintain its good relationships with the three district councils (Hastings, Central Hawke's Bay and Napier), the regional council (Hawke's Bay) as well as rural, environment and community organisations.

The province questions and lobbies all aspects relating to what affects its farming communities.

Hawke's Bay branches serve the areas of Otane, Hastings and Havelock North.

Main issues

Water quality improvement in the Upper Mohaka/Taharua Catchment, Ruataniwha Plain Water Storage Project, four annual council plans and rural subdivision plan change in the Hastings District.

Hawkes Bay Regional Council- Federated Farmers enjoys a close relationship with the Regional Council, which means that we are consulted early and often, with farmer concerns taken seriously. An example of recent consultation is on Change 4 to the Regional Policy Statement which is still only in draft stage. Change 4 looks at development and subdivision, and Federated Farmers made some suggestions to avoid the loss of productive soil to urban land use, and reverse sensitivity problems where new urban neighbours may complain about normal farming smells and noises.

Pest and Weed Management - Federated Farmers submitted to HBRC on the Regional Pest Management Strategy in January 2012. Federated Farmers advocates both central and local government to get Crown entities like the Department of Conservation and Kiwirail to carry out pest and weed control on their land to avoid becoming a haven when other land owners are working hard on control.
