Heavy snow expected across eastern New Zealand, Sunday and Monday

Released 10 Aug 2011

Met Service is warning farmers across the eastern South Island and central North Island there may be heavy snowfalls when a cold front sweeps up the country on Sunday, 14 August.

With calving underway and lambing just starting in some areas, farmers should take into consideration the likelihood of snow to very low levels on the east and south of both islands and across the central plateau. The risk of heavy snow in the Tararua, Hawkes Bay and Gisborne areas is low at this stage.

There is also a possibility of severe gale force winds on Sunday and Monday 15 August from Banks Peninsular in Canterbury through to Cape Campbell in Marlborough.
