Agriculture recognised in Honours List
Released 07 Jun 2010
Federated Farmers is pleased that agriculture was well represented in the 2010 Queen's Birthday Honours List.
"I wish to pay tribute to everyone our Sovereign has awarded an honour to," says Don Nicolson, President of Federated Farmers.
"Tom Henderson (O.N.Z.M) of South Canterbury, has been a member of Federated Farmers for over fifty years and is the ‘Sir Bill Hamilton' of water storage. He has helped put water storage well and truly back on the policy agenda.
"John Jensen (Q.S.M) of Te Puke, is another farm leader who has been a member of the Federation since 1964. Having served at a provincial and national level, his award is richly deserved for the thousands of hours of voluntary time he has contributed.
"Simon Chaffey JP (Q.S.M) of Picton, is another farm leader whose Queen's Service Medal recognises many decades of community service including with Federated Farmers Meat & Fibre. He is also an inspirational example where disability is no barrier to success.
"Dr Arnold Max Bryant (M.N.Z.M) of Hamilton, is a hugely respected scientist in the dairy industry. Meanwhile Don Ferguson (M.N.Z.M) of Otorohanga, is one of New Zealand's most respected breeders of Jersey cattle. This includes working with Her Majesty's own cows since the early nineties," Mr Nicolson concluded.
