Good Farm Stories go online

Released 26 Nov 2009

Federated Farmers has today welcomed the launch of goodfarmstories.org.nz by Green Party MP, Jeanette Fitzsimons. The informative website was launched at Parliament today and Federated Farmers chief executive, Conor English, was among the attendees.

"It's great to see the Green Party focus on positive stories about our world beating farmers," says Mr English.

"Every farmer is well aware that they are custodians of the country's land and water. Our farmers work and live in the natural environment and every one of them wants to leave it in a better state than when they found it.

"That's why we so often find the Green Party's focus on negative farming stories particularly frustrating. Today, however, we congratulate them for promoting the fact a vast majority of our farmers are doing a great job.

"I agree with Ms Fitzsimons comment that "there are great things going on and it's time that more of these good farm stories get told".

"At Federated Farmers, we are very keen to celebrate the huge number of agricultural success stories.

"This website adds to the myriad of positive stories that are told at events such as the Ballance Farm Environment Awards, Young Farmer Contest, the New Zealand Dairy Industry Awards and, of course, our very own Federated Farmers Cream of the Crop awards.

"This website adds to that constructive effort and I encourage farmers to visit it," Mr English concluded.
