Released 26 Feb 2010
Under Section 63 of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996
While Methyl Bromide is not a chemical used on-farm, it is used to fumigate timber and other materials at our ports and forms an important part of our biosecurity capacity.
Biosecurity is of great importance to the agricultural sector in New Zealand. Federated Farmers does not wish to see our biosecurity capacity compromised.
Some farmers also have forestry on their land and are thus part of New Zealand’s forestry sector. We also wish to ensure that New Zealand’s forestry sector is not compromised.
