Otago Regional Council Draft Annual Plan 2010/11

Federated Farmers supports the intent of Council's decision to keep the general rates take for 2010/11 at the same level as the 2009/10 year. At a time when other councils continue to increase their rates take, ORC's decision to control rates increases is a fine example of matching the rates take to suit the economic conditions. However, we note that debt is increasing substantially and submit that Council control rates increases through reduced expenditure and continuing to look for better efficiencies rather than deferring costs for future ratepayers.
