New Field Officer hits the road in Canterbury

Federated Farmers has appointed Vicky O'Connor as the new Federated Farmers Field Officer for Canterbury, covering the areas of North, Mid and South Canterbury.
"While we influence decision making both internationally and domestically, it's our grass roots connections that are vital to the success of agriculture and New Zealand," says Conor English, Federated Farmers Chief Executive.
Vicky, who has been farming on a block near Timaru with her partner, joined Federated Farmers recently as part of a new membership drive to try to boost the Federation's membership numbers.
"I enjoy all aspects of farming and the outdoors and I especially enjoy mixing with like minded people. I am very passionate about farming and helping members deal with the issues and challenges that affect the farming community," says Vicky O'Connor, Federated Farmers Canterbury Field Officer.
"Farmers need the support services that Federated Farmers offers to help them face issues such as the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), dairy conversions, water storage, tenure review and the numerous issues faced by the meat and wool industry at the moment.
"I think I'm a good candidate for this role because I have been involved with farming and politics for a number of years. I believe this has grown my knowledge and appreciation of just how valuable the agriculture industry is.
"We need a good strong voice at a regional level so that we can achieve better results for everyone. With good leadership at both a regional and national level, the agriculture industry can grow and progress," Ms O'Connor concluded.
Vicky brings to the role a vast amount knowledge and experience in the agriculture industry, she also enjoys photography, specialising in agricultural photography.
