Industry Group Chairpersons
Each industry group has its own governance structure. Industry group councillors hold regular meetings to discuss issues relevant to their industry, and pass policy remits which can be brought to Federated Farmers' top decision making body, its National Council. Each industry group has one dedicated vote on the 41-member Council, which meets twice a year.

A sheep and beef farmer near Mt Hutt, Jeanette Maxwell was elected on 29 June 2011. She is not just the first woman elected to head Federated Farmers Meat & Fibre, but is the Federation's first female National Board Member. A past participant in the Kellogg Rural Leadership Programme, Federated Farmers leadership courses and the FAME (Food, Agribusiness, Marketing and Experience) course, she has an active interest in structual issues with meat and fibre.

John Hartnell is a former National Board member of Federated Farmers who retired from the Board in 2011. A Christchurch based exporter of honey related products, he has a strong interest and expertise in biosecurity policy. In 2010, Mr Hartnell came to national prominence as 'General' of the Farmy Army that with the Student Volunteer Army, did much to assist residents devasted by three significant earthquakes. Mr Hartnell was named Federated Farmers 2011 Agri-Personality of the Year in recognition of the Farmy Army's work.

Willy Leferink

Elected on 29 June 2011, Willy Leferink was born in Holland. He has progressed through the New Zealand dairy industry from farm worker to sharemilker and now to having an interest in six farms in and around Ashburton, as well as a dairy cow nutrition company. Mr Leferink is a member of the International Dairy Federation's (IDF) standing committee on farm management and animal health and is on the board of a local community project.

Elected in 2011, Ian MacKenzie runs a fully irrigated 400 hectare vegetable/grass seeds and finishing operation at Eiffelton, near Ashburton. A Director of Ashburton Trading Society he sits on numerous boards including a contracting business. Mr MacKenzie is a former Nuffield Scholar and a New Zealand Farm Environment award recipient.
