The National Farmers Federation of Australia today said a special thank you to New Zealand farmers for providing their members with free farm holidays during the past year's terrible drought across the Tasman.

President of the National Farmers Federation, David Crombie presented the president of Federated Farmers of New Zealand with a special plaque thanking farmers for their generous gesture. About 150 Australian farmers took up the free holidays.

"When we received the offer from Charlie, there was a standing ovation from our board. Many of our people had been stricken by drought for two to three years and their outlook on life was pretty grim. This offer was an incredibly generous act and a huge morale booster for our farmers for which we are extremely grateful." said Mr Crombie.

Federated Farmers president, Charlie Pedersen says the idea of offering the holidays came from a member and quickly became a reality. It was gesture which epitomises the true ANZAC spirit and shows that when the chips are down Australians and New Zealanders support each other in a very special way. He said he was pleased to help fellow farmers.
