Emissions Trading Scheme submission
In February 2008 Federated Farmers made a submission to the Finance and Expenditure Committee on climate change (Emissions trading and Renewable Preferance) Bill.
Federated Farmers has been closely involved with other agricultural sector organisations in the climate change issue since April 2001, when it was first brought to the Federation's attention that agricultural greenhouse gas emissions would be included in the Government's domestic policy response to the Kyoto Protocol.
Federated Farmers opposed the Government's 2002 ratification of the Kyoto Protocol and remains opposed to it. Federation members are of the strong view that it is unjustifiable and inappropriate for the Government to bind New Zealand to emissions reduction commitments and certain economic hardship for little if any environmental benefit.
Below is a copy of the submission put forward by the Federation.
