North Canterbury and Chatham Islands
Introduction
Federated Farmers North Canterbury/Chatham Islands represents local farmers' views at five district councils and one regional council.
Main Issues
The main issues in our province are to do with water usage, the basis on which rates are calculated and the way that the Resource Management Act is being interpreted.
Meetings and notices
Each month the Federated Farmers North Canterbury executive meet to discuss local and national policy issues, events and other matters affecting the province. You can read the industry group and regional policy reports for the province by clicking here.
Dairy Effluent expo - Canterbury dairy farmers have made good improvements in effluent compliance over recent seasons and this appears to have carried through to the current season. It is important that we continue working to protect the farming environment now and for future generations. It is crucial to remain vigilant in operating effluent systems and to remain compliant with consent conditions.
Effluent storage is an issue that needs to be given a high priority because about 70 percent of Canterbury farms do not have enough storage. This can be checked using the storage pond calculator developed by the dairy industry.

To assist with the management of effluent issues a Canterbury Effluent Expo will be held on 20 February 2012, at the Riding for the Disabled Centre at Canterbury Agricultural Park, 10 am - 4 pm . This will be an extremely valuable opportunity to talk with the suppliers of services and products related to the management of farm effluent in one place
