Compensation for transmission infrastructure
New Zealand electricity is generated at hydro, thermal, geothermal and wind power stations scattered throughout the North Island and hydro and wind power stations in the South Island. Load is at highly populated areas, generally in the North Island while generation capacity is in lightly populated areas, with hydro storage mainly in the South Island. As a consequence there is approximately 12,000 kilometres1 of transmission infrastructure in New Zealand linking generation capacity and storage with commercial, industrial and residential end users. The majority of transmission towers and lines are on and over private property, predominantly land used for farming. Read more »

The Federated Farmers Bee Industry Group has established the ‘Trees for Bees' programme in order to ensure that bees have the opportunity to gather pollen and nectar, providing the vitamins and minerals required to maintain optimum hive strength and a viable pollinated bee force. Read more »

Horizons' One Plan
Horizons Regional Council One Plan, which has being the subject of a long and complicated mediation process, has now come to the end of the scheduled mediation sessions and the revised positions of the parties involved in the mediation process have been drafted. Read more »
Resource Management Act
Members have asked Federated Farmers to fix problems caused by the Resource Management Act. Federated Farmers is determined to do this. Fixing the RMA is a priority. A special team has been formed which is working on ways to improve the Act, streamline councils' implimentation the Act and reducing the power of the Department of Conservation in submission and appeal processes.
