To be a proactive advocate in the interests of high country people and the land.

  3. High country farmers are aware of the activities and issues of Federated Farmers High Country.

Activities

1. High country farmers' interests and property rights are protected:

  • Ensure that high country issues are included in national Federated Farmers submissions and activities.
  • Strive for practical interpretations and favourable outcomes of the Land Act 1948 and the Crown Pastoral Land Act 1998.
  • Seek dialogue with appropriate political leaders and officials at every opportunity.
  • Remain active on the Tenure Review Steering Committee.
  • Provide all reasonable support and assistance to the Tenure Review "Accord" Task Force.

2. High country farmers can achieve sustainable businesses in a fair and flexible commercial environment:

  • Lobby for effective district and regional plans.
  • Promote and facilitate a positive image of high country enterprises.
  • Promote practical research programmes and application.
  • Allocate funding and other available resources to farmers' advantage.
  • Encourage the active involvement of young members.
  • Promote practical and affordable weed and pest control programs.
  • Lobby for a satisfactory NZ Biodiversity Strategy.
  • To respect the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.
  • Develop and enhance strategic alliances.

3. High country farmers are aware of the activities and issues of the High Country   Committee:

  • Communicate effectively with members on political, legal and technical issues associated with the high country through newsletters, releases and, where deemed appropriate, seminars and/or workshops.
  • Provide a forum at the annual conference to update members on political developments and progress of Tenure Review "Accord" Task Force.
