Regulations for exemptions and thresholds for calculating agricultural emissions
Released 09 Jun 2010
Federated Farmers believes that biological agricultural emissions from food production should be removed from the Kyoto Protocol and subsequent international climate change agreements. Federated Farmers further considers the inclusion of biological agricultural emissions in the ETS should be postponed far beyond the 2015 entry currently set in the legislation. For the Government to propose these draft regulations is wholly inappropriate. Read more »
Otago Regional Council Draft Annual Plan 2010/11
Released 03 May 2010
Federated Farmers supports the intent of Council’s decision to keep the general rates take for 2010/11 at the same level as the 2009/10 year. At a time when other councils continue to increase their rates take, ORC’s decision to control rates increases is a fine example of matching the rates take to suit the economic conditions. Federated Farmers agrees that employment law should be fair and flexible for all. However, the Federation is not convinced that the current law achieves an appropriate balance and based on member feedback we think there is a particular problem around personal grievances where the scales are tipped too much in favour of the employee. There may or may not be bias in the law but there is certainly a strong perception that there is bias and because this perception influences behaviour it becomes real. Read more »
Waimate District Council Draft Annual Plan 2010/11
Released 31 Mar 2010
While Council is clearly aware of the necessity of keeping rates increases to a minimum, a rates increase of 6.3 percent means hundreds of dollars extra in rates for our members with no ability to pass these additional costs on. We encourage Council to further cut the rates take for 2010/11 and to utilise a broader basket of rating tools to create a better alignment between community expectation and the costs of meeting these expectations.
