Federated Farmers Farm Day comes to Auckland

You're invited to visit the Waitiro farm in Clevedon, one of 24 farms across New Zealand opening its gates for Federated Farmers Farm Day on the last Sunday of March (March 28, 2010).
"The Auckland Federated Farmers team is looking forward to meeting and talking with families about what we do as farmers," says Philip York, Auckland Federated Farmers President.
"Farm Day is a Federated Farmers initiative to promote New Zealand's excellent agricultural sector, with a particular focus on the environment due to this year's theme of The Green Farmer.
"Brian and Dianne Duder, together with their sharemilkers, Rodney and Julie Carr, are opening their gates so everyone can see farm animals up close, learn what they eat and find out how they keep their animals healthy and happy.
"The Duders' Waitiro farm, near Clevedon, is made up of 75 hectares of heavy soils. They graze 200 dairy cows for milking and 16 cross bred cattle for beef. The Duders own the land and the Carrs own the dairy cows. Profit is shared so the running of the farm really is a team effort.
"To the Duder family, sustainable farming means managing farm operations to ensure the environment is protected, their animals are healthy and their business is successful.
"Farm Day offers the general public and farmers alike the chance to see how the team at Waitiro works in harmony with the land that forms both their home and their livelihood.
"Local farmers will offer guided walks, tell stories, give demonstrations and invite everyone to lend a hand. No questions will be off limits, Farm Day is an open learning opportunity but also a fun day out," concluded Mr York.
