Last weekend’s snowfall event, while not widespread, has caused major problems for some farmers in the Rangitaiki Plains and North-West Hawke's Bay As well as difficulties in feeding out and expected damage to infrastructure including fences that will become evident as the snow melts, farmers and their staff have been working long hours to deal with the storm’s aftermath. Some farmers need help with labour and/or feed.
Firstly, labour for a day is needed; likely for the second half of next week (depending on when the snow melts) to help with farm tasks such as relief milking, feeding out and give farmers and their staff a needed break. It is important that helpers have the required skills and experience for these tasks.
Secondly some feed, in the form of large round bales of hay is needed. Donations to see some farmers through in the short-tem would be welcome as would details of hay for sale. It is important that all feed provided is of good quality and doesn’t present any biosecurity risks from pests etc.
People who can help with either of the above areas contact the applicable Provincial President in the first instance.
Hay for sale can be listed in the first instance through Federated Farmers Feed Line 0800 376 844.
