Released 08 Aug 2011
Helping Christchurch residents in need, this Friday 12 August 2011, 1:30- 3:00pm
This Friday, between 1:30 and 3:00pm, 600 needy families in Christchurch's earthquake-ravaged eastern suburbs will benefit from a Farmy Army ‘Sunday Roast Pack'.
Each pack will contain frozen meat donated by Alliance Group, vegetables donated by farmers from around Ashburton along with Beef+Lamb recipe suggestions.
Federated Farmers' Farmy Army is working under the guidance of Senior Sergeant Roy Appley and the New Brighton Police Station team to identify those residents most in need.
The Farmy Army is also working closely with Rural Women New Zealand, the Student Volunteer Army and other volunteers to get these packs into Christchurch's eastern suburbs.
Media are asked to kindly assist Federated Farmers Farmy Army by:
- Publicising that the Farmy Army will be making 600 ‘Sunday Roast Packs' available this Friday between 1:30-3:00pm to help distressed residents
- The main distribution centre will be the New Brighton Police Station's frontyard (147-149 Seaview Road, New Brighton)
- Some ‘Sunday Roast Packs' will be personally delivered to people unable to come to the New Brighton Police Station as well to residents in Sumner and Lyttelton.
The Farmy Army is also keen for volunteers to assist with deliveries as well as pack preparation: If volunteers can help this Friday, they can register your interest and mobile numbers with helenheddell@xtra.co.nz, or by text message to 0274 588 355 or 0274 361 389.
Federated Farmers appreciates the support of the media with helping Christchurch's recovery.
