GYPSY / MOOVING DAY

April 9, 2020

Federated Farmers is aware of the level of concern among dairy farmers over how the annual 31 May/1 June “Gypsy Day” or “Moving day” shift will work under the COVID-19 controls. This is a stressful enough time in a normal year and many people are understandably concerned about how the COVID-19 restrictions will impact their ability to move their family, herd and machinery.

Federated Farmers, DairyNZ, Fonterra, and FMG are working hard with the Ministry for Primary Industries to come up with practical solutions and advice to help ensure this important activity can still take place.

As part of this, we have launched a survey to capture information on where you are moving from and to, the animals moving, what logistical support you need, and information about your farm “bubble” including staff households and migrant staff. This information will be used to inform the development of solutions to present to the government for a low-risk moving day.

This survey will be closing Monday 13 April – if you are moving, can you please complete the survey so we have the best chance of enabling this to happen for you.
