PNCC will fit the content of their presentation to address farmer questions/interest, so if you have any particular questions or areas of concern let us know. We are aiming to give PNCC a steer as to questions/issues a couple of days before the meeting, so input would be great before Monday 6 July. These can be sent via email or text to Coralee [email protected] phone/text - 027 2651648 .

What is ‘Nature Calls’ and who should attend?

This project is looking to refine the option that PNCC will progress in their next application to the Horizons Regional Council to discharge treated wastewater via resource consent under the Resource Management Act.

This proposal will be of particular interest to:

  • Farmers who are PNCC ratepayers; and
  • Farmers downstream of Palmerston North City
PNCC are considering the following 6 options (note these are links to the PNCC website, so if you are keen to find out more - click on the link)

Option 1: All treated wastewater is discharged to the Manawatū River, with improved removal of phosphorus and nitrogen

Option 2: Treated wastewater discharged to Manawatū River at Tōtara Road, and below Opiki bridge, with some land application

Option 3:
Treated wastewater applied to land, with discharge to the Manawatū River in exceptional circumstances

Option 4: Treated wastewater applied to land, with some discharge to the Manawatū River

Option 5: Discharge to groundwater via infiltration, with land application in the drier months of the year

Option 6: Most of the treated wastewater discharged to the ocean, and some applied to land

Submissions to PNCC are due Friday 10 July. Federated Farmers and Fonterra will be submitting, but we are keen to ensure interested farmers have the opportunity to do so also.

We hope you can join us.
