Canterbury updates - boil drinking water - restrict travel!

31 May 2021

Another long day for everyone affected by the heavy rain and subsequent flooding It has been heartening to see you all out there doing what you do so well, pulling together, helping each other out, and protecting the welfare of your stock. This is an incredibly stressful situation, and the impacts will be felt for some time. Please reach out for support when you need it.

DRINKING WATER

During flooding events there can be a risk of water contamination, we highly recommend boiling all drinking water until floodwaters have subsided and you can be confident water sources are not contaminated.

VOLUNTEERS

We have had an overwhelming amount of offers of volunteers which is heartening and much appreciated. We want to ensure that these offers of help are well received and not a distraction to current efforts. We are now in the process of conducting a needs assessment for the affected region. If you have any immediate needs please get in touch so that we can support you in getting any required assistance.

ROADS

There have been multiple road closures, slips bridges washed out/damaged throughout Canterbury today and there could still be more overnight, we can’t emphasise enough essential trips only. If there are road closures that are affecting your ability to manage and care for stock, please contact us so that we can work with the local authorities to get you safe access.

Remember safety first. You, your family, and your neighbour’s well-being is paramount
If life, health, or property is in danger, call 111.
