Federated Farmers Feedback on the Proposed Gisborne Regional Pest Management Plan
Federated Farmers made a lengthy submission on the proposed new Gisborne Regional Pest Management Plan. We generally supported the Plan, in particular the proposal to apply “good neighbour rules” to all landowners/occupiers in the new Regional Pest Management Plan. These rules make everyone responsible for carryout out pest control on their land including the Crown e.g. Council, DOC and NZTA and KiwiRail. In our view, these rules will go part way toward addressing the effects that poor pest control in these areas has on neighbouring farms. We also strongly supported proposals to more equitably fund pest management. We plan to attend the hearing in April 2017. For more, read the full submission
