Federated Farmers supported the introduction of water metering as it will conserve water and be funded by targeted rates. We also supported the use of a targeted commercial rate to fund economic development and asked that Council raise the percentage of total revenue collected by general charges to the allowable maximum of 30%. Feds oppose Council undertaking a residential subdivision as we consider this is not their role and exposes rate payers to a higher level of risk than is appropriate. Finally, we encouraged Stratford DC along with the other Taranaki councils to review their road-side maintenance and spraying programs to halt the spread of Yellow Bristle Grass.
