Local Government Business Forum Newsletter - July 2022

The Local Government Business Forum has released its annual newsletter.

"Local elections are coming up in October and nominations have opened for candidates", said Michael Barnett, Chair of the Forum.

"The stakes this year are high with major central government reforms of Three Waters and to the RMA making it more important than ever that good quality candidates put themselves forward to not only drive better performance in their councils but also ensure their councils go into bat for their communities as the reforms are progressed.

"The Local Government Business Forum and its individual member organisations provide central and local government with the broader business perspective on the important issues for local government.

"The Forum newsletter contains articles on the following issues:
  • From the Chair
  • State of the Gap
  • No Winners in a Popularity Contest
  • Will These be Our Last Local Elections?
  • Paying for Pipes
  • How Can We Join the Dots of Resource Reform?
  • The Business Rates Burden
  • Managed Retreat - Who Pays?
  • Aspiring Global City? Consider a 24 Hour Economy Strategy
"I welcome feedback. Local government is crucially important to the economy and for the country as a whole and I hope our newsletter helps stimulate debate and discussion as the elections near," said Mr Barnett.

The newsletter is available here.
