Federated Farmers Submission on the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Bill
Federated Farmers represents large and small farmers from all parts of New Zealand. As landowners and land managers our members have an intense interest in the efficient and effective implementation of the four Rs of fire (Reduction, Readiness, Response, Recovery). Farmers and landowners have a unique relationship with fire. While on one hand our members’ personal safety and that of their property is acutely at risk from uncontrolled vegetation fire, they also need controlled fire for effective land and vegetation management. Additionally, our members and their family and staff are regular volunteers to rural fire fighting forces and small town volunteer brigades.
On behalf of our members, Federated Farmers has had and maintains a very keen interest in the legislation, regulation and government policy governing the fire services and we will continue to engage constructively as the new legislation is implemented.
