Federated Farmers advocates for equitable rating policy and better local government for all farmers. We contend that the existing system of local property taxes is loaded against farms, with farmers paying many more times than other residents for community services and infrastructure. We know that councils can mitigate this through better rating policy, and that government needs to step up and end local government’s over-reliance on property value rates.
