Federated Farmers acknowledges that tourism is an important contributor to new Zealand's economy. We appreciate that freedom camping allows tourists to connect with rural New Zealand and helps ensure that NZ is holiday-friendly for different budgets. However, as the Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment recently noted, tourism is not an environmentally benign activity.
