Reclassification of Stewardship Land on the West Coast
Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Federated Farmers) welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback to the Department of Conservation (DOC) on the reclassification of stewardship land on the West Coast.
We appreciate the extension to the consultation time. We understand that reclassification is a ministerial priority and that there is a self-imposed five year timeline. However, as the reclassification process has been stalled for such a long time due to its inherent complexity, we believe that all interested parties want to see reclassification done correctly, or not at all.
Federated Farmers appreciates working with DOC staff to enable public meetings on the West Coast. Whilst the webinar was informative, several members struggled with asking questions via the chat feature. Some members also struggled with connectivity.
We seek that appropriate time is given to the hearing process. Rushing the hearings through in a week is not acceptable nor is it conducive to a fair process or an optimal outcome.
