Submission on the International Treaty examination of the UK - NZ Free Trade Agreement

Federated Farmers has had a long history of supporting efforts to liberalise trade and reduce trade barriers. The Federation has also urged producers in other countries to embrace trade liberalisation, via fora such as the Cairns Group Farm leaders (CGFL) and the World Farmers Organisation (WFO).

Not only is liberalised, rules-based trade beneficial from the perspectives of economic performance, environmental sustainability and consumer welfare, but it also provides greater consumer choice, liquidity in markets, greater opportunities for partnerships and the further development of domestic, regional and global value chains.

Federated Farmers supports the UK-NZ FTA. We recommend that it be ratified by New Zealand as soon as possible.
