Submission on the Managing Exotic Afforestation Incentives Discussion Document
Federated Farmers of New Zealand welcomes the opportunity to submit to the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) on the ‘Managing Incentives for Exotic Afforestation’ discussion document (the discussion document). We would like to note that the discussion document is an excellent synthesis of the runaway blanket afforestation problem facing many of our farming members.
We are very pleased that the Government is no longer claiming that the suite of policies distorting land-use decision-making in favour of wholesale afforestation is not a problem. However, the proposed policy changes outlined in the discussion document will be inadequate to restore a level playing field to land use policy settings.
