Submission to Taumata Arowai on the Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules & Acceptable Solutions

The farming community has a strong interest in this framework. Many farms in New Zealand supply or are supplied by very small and small rural drinking water schemes that are privately owned and operated. Many farmers are in the unique position of both supplying and consuming their drinking water. They are committed to providing safe water to themselves and to those they supply.

In recent years the farming community has experienced the onset of new and powerful regulations that impact and cost farm businesses. There is a great deal of “regulatory exhaustion” within our farming community, and this has certainly been emphasised in the huge amount of feedback Federated Farmers has received on the revamp of drinking water regulation.
