Submission on: The Emergency Management Bill

Federated Farmers of New Zealand welcomes the opportunity to provide feedback to the Governance & Administration Committee on the Emergency Management Bill.

Emergencies, including those arising from the weather, tectonic movement, infrastructure failure, or from human engineered events have the potential to threaten all New Zealanders. These events can vary widely in not only their nature but also the extent (local, regional and national scale), severity and their mode of action (from sudden, catastrophic to more gradual onset). These events are defined by the potential to cause loss of life, injury, illness, or distress or in any way endangers the safety of the public or property and cannot solely be dealt with by emergency services.
