Submission on the Draft Waikato Regional Pest Management Plan 2021-2031

Federated Farmers have submitted on the Draft Waikato Regional Pest Management Plan (RPMP) 2021-31.

Our major areas of concern include the removal of the Good Neighbour Rule, which binds the managers of crown land under rules in the plan.

We consider the provided cost/benefit analysis inadequate for the removal of some species from the plan. Federated Farmers believe there is a lack of funding information, particularly on how the costs of pest management will be shared by “exacerbators” and beneficiaries.
Of particular concern are the removal of Pampus and Tutsan grass from control under the RPMP, along with the on-going exclusion of Yellow Bristle Grass.

Among other species we are also calling for tighter controls on Canada Geese, Wild Deer, Feral Pigs, Woolie Nightshade and Blackberry.
We expect to be heard in support of our submission in mid-August 2021.
