Submission on  the Proposed Coromandel Town Bypass

Federated Farmers has submitted on the design of a proposed bypass that will circumvent the centre of Coromandel town. The bypass aims to reduce delays and improve resilience and safety of the township, particularly during the peak summer season. The proposed route will cross Council owned land between SH25 and Woollams Ave. We consider the expenditure of $3.4 million worth of district rates is not a ‘must do’ project at the moment. Further, the bypass is not a necessity given the bypass will not address any no known safety issues, and evidence of alleviating traffic congestion appears anecdotal. Formal submission of the project for construction will form part of the 2024 Long Term Plan review.
