Submission

Submissions to the Hauraki District Council:-
Draft Stock Crossing Bylaw 2022
Draft Speed Management Plan 2022
Draft Waste Minimisation Bylaw 2022

Federated Farmers lodged submissions to the proposed stock crossing bylaw, speed management plan, and waste management bylaw. We will be speaking to these submissions at a hearing on 13th of July 2022.  Overall:
  • We were largely supportive of the proposed stock crossing bylaw, with some recommendations in relation to advance warning requirements. We also pushed for stock movements during hours of darkness as a permitted activity.
  • In terms of the speed management plan, we did not support the proposed lower speed limits for individual rural roads until the road can be improved, as a lower cost option. We also did not support any introduction of a targeted rate to fund rural roading infrastructure upgrades considering rural rate payers already pay their fair share towards roading rates, and asked council to reprioritise its focus.
  • We provided comments to Council on their waste management bylaw, which was silent on rural waste. We encouraged Council to establish more drop off hubs for farm plastics (working with AgRecovery), and to facilitate of the use of waste recovery schemes such as Plasback through education and subsidies.
